About 90 Proof :

The band formed in the Summer of 2003.  Jason Barrett and Greg Jackson (long time friends and band mates) wanted to return to their roots, and put together a group that would have tons of fun playing songs from their high school years.  Below you'll find a sample list of songs you might hear in a 90 Proof set.  They continue to expand this list to include everything from sweet, acoustic versions to full-out, loud rockin' sets, tailored to fit any venue.  Although 90’s bands have been the main focus, they’ve been known to throw in some classic tunes from decades past as well as a few current tunes that have been deemed worthy.

Currently, you will find Mike Basica on screaming guitar.  Jason Barrett beats the drums and lends his serene voice on the mic, swapping harmonies and melodies with Greg Jackson, trying his best to make all sounds go from squeaky clean to chaotic distortion! Rico Molden thumps the fat strings holding down the low end.  Be sure to catch one of their upcoming shows, or book them to play at your bar, club, coffee house or private party.  It's a nostalgic experience you won't want to miss . . .

Read on for more band history:

Since it's inception, 90 Proof has included a number of equally enthusiastic players in the line-up.  Rock music veteran, Mike Basica, is the band's own personal Slash when it comes to cranking out solos on his Les Paul or PRS.  Being a long time friend of the family, Mike was the first to introduce Greg to the ways of making distortion and feedback noise become beautiful music to your bleeding ears!  Mike joined the band for their second show ever, and has rarely missed a gig since.
Founding member, Kaytee Bodle, was the original bass player along with Greg on guitar and Jason on drums.  Greg met Kaytee at Pitzer College in Claremont, CA when they both auditioned to play in the band for the Claremont Colleges' live production of Rocky Horror.  Greg realized Kaytee also loved 90s music when she was rocking out to a Foo Fighters song one day at rehearsal... and the seed was planted!  The two of them were able to stay in touch easily, both being music majors at Pitzer, and playing together in other music ensembles on campus like West African Drumming, and Balinese Gamelan.  Kaytee's voice was perfect for high harmonies and lead vocals on songs by the Pixies, Breeders, and Veruca Salt, just to name a few.
Fellow Pitzer music major and Gamelaner, Pete Steele, showed interest in playing keyboards for the band after attending a few of the early 90 Proof performances.  Pete also learned to play the bass guitar and fill in for Kaytee over the summer, and after she graduated and left So Cal for the Bay Area.  Sadly, not only did Kaytee leave town, but Pete also had to go when he was accepted to a Masters program in Vancouver, B.C.
Greg picked up the bass for awhile to fill the void and so began the 90 Proof trio as it is today.  A few other local friends have stepped in on bass to give Greg the chance to play guitar again.  Mike Greco played bass with Jason and Greg "back in the day" and spent some more time with 90 Proof, helping the band rise to a new level of professionalism.  With an accomplished bass player back in their midst, they were able to attempt more difficult songs, and the sets got tighter with each rehearsal and performance.  When Greco left the band to concentrate on his own original song writing, Greg went back to the bass, developing his own style based a lot on the energy and technique of the band's former bassists.
Most recently, a new face has been seen at 90 Proof shows.  Rico Molden was a stand-in bass player for one set in October of 2007.  He learned 10 songs and Greg was able to grab the guitar again after a few seasons on the bass.  Rico kept learning more songs; some that the band had already performed in the past, and some new additions to their list.  Now he's looking more like a permanent member, rather than only making guest appearances!  The band couldn't be happier.
